One Stitch at a Time. Sewing tips #3

How to make your piece lay flat after you turn it inside out? How can you get nice and straight corners and beautiful curves? The secret is in trimming the seam allowance in the right manner.

If you have a complex shape, with corners and curves, start with trimming the corners. Trim them close to the seam, but avoid cutting the threads.

Then cut the inner corner almost to the seam -

To help you to make curved parts more accurate, cut out little triangles from the seam allowance where you have curved line -

Now your little heart is ready to be turned the right side out.

Use a pin or a needle to adjust the seams, so the piece will be nice and flat.

The heart is ready! Now you can iron it and top stitch, or use hand stitch to close the opening. Also you can stuff it with wool or poly-fill and stitch after that.
